As spring sports season gets underway, it's a great time to prioritize your child’s foot health.

One of my top suggestions is to ASK your child if they’re experiencing any foot or leg pain.

Many kids won’t mention soreness unless it becomes more severe. This is especially common in sports like soccer, where shoes may not offer the best support.

Children with flat feet are particularly prone to foot and leg pain during physical activity.

Often, pediatricians diagnose this pain as “growing pains,” but in my experience, it’s rarely the true cause. Once custom orthotics are made for their shoes, the pain usually disappears completely.

Before the spring sports season really picks up, here are 3 things to keep in mind for your child's foot health:

  1. Ask your child if they’re feeling any foot or leg soreness.
  2. Make sure their shoes fit properly and provide good support.
  3. Bring your child in for an exam if they’re complaining of pain during practice or a game.

I have such fond memories of watching my own kids play soccer, and I love supporting youth and high school sports. I truly hope your child or grandchild enjoys a fun and pain-free sports season!
