There are some things that seem to mysteriously show up in the feet.

A bone spur is a common one of those things.

A bone spur in the heel, known as a heel spur, is probably the most common and well known of the spurs.

The heel isn’t the only place for a bone spur in the foot.

They can happen around the big toe joint, on a small toe, around the ankle and on top of the foot.

Some bone spurs can cause persistent pain and others may never hurt.

If a bone spur rubs up against another bone, like what can happen in the toes, pain is often the result.

As far as the heel is concerned, not all spurs are painful.

There isn’t a way to dissolve a spur with medication or a shot.

We will give non-surgical recommendations for spur pain such as specific shoe suggestions, activity adjustments and sometimes orthotics.

As always, our goal is to do whatever we can to avoid the need for surgery.

If you have been experiencing a new pain in your heel, big toe joint or ankle, there is the possibility that a spur could be the culprit.

Call us if an old or new foot concern is affecting you.
